All about ARPCE and what we can do for you

The Association for Research in Post-Compulsory Education (ARPCE) was originally formed around 1980 to promote good practice in the Further Education sector and related fields such as Adult and Community Education, and was originally known as the Further Education Research Association (FERA). Initially we organised annual conferences with speakers representing both policy and research. For the past eight years we have constituted the Editorial Board for the highly successful journal Research in Post-Compulsory Education.  ARPCE is both independent and non-profit making and is run by a voluntary committee.

Annual Conferences

Over the years, we have run some three dozen conferences with our inaugural international research conference taking place in Oxford in July 2014. Under the inclusive theme ‘Research in Post-Compulsory Education’ the conference was a great success. We are currently planning and seeking submissions for our 2nd conference which will again take place in Oxford in July 2016.
More details are available here: ARPCE 2nd International Research Conference

Research in Post-Compulsory Education Journal (RPCE)

The RPCE is a respected, refereed international journal issued free to ARPCE members.  It is issued three or four times a year and covers a wide range of topics, all addressed by experts in their fields.  Some issues are themed, for example ‘Understanding the Educational Workforce in Post-Compulsory Education’.

Members and Networking

As the leading organisation on research in the field of post-compulsory education we hope that our website will encourage debate amongst our 300 or so members. Through raising and discussing issues of the day, by spreading good practice, and news regarding publications and conferences elsewhere we hope to improve the wider understanding of post-compulsory education. We have also established a presence on the professional network LinkedIn and Twitter for discussions based around new issues of our Journal. Membership of ARPCE is free – for details on how to join please visit our members page – and please encourage your colleagues to join us too!

Management Committee

Our voluntary management committee meets twice a year to keep ARPCE on track. Details of our current committee members are available on our committee page. We would very much welcome newcomers, perhaps with research and/or management backgrounds. We would also welcome assistance from those with web IT and networking expertise. If you think this could be you please contact us below:
